Jacobson Information Page

This page is about the Jacobson Family and the various related lines.

This family is thought to have come from Bobruisk, Belarus. 2 of the Brothers and the wife of  the 3rd Brother are known to have settled in New York City around the late 1880's to the mid 1890's.

The families have since spread out across the United States with some living in Israel.

The Jacobson family is from  Bobruisk, Belarus. Our branch came to Brooklyn, New York.   The other branches also might have come to Brooklyn at first before passing on to other parts of the country. As was common at the time, the family name was changed on Ellis Island. I believe, one brother came first, requested the name as he was the son of Jacob, and then sent for the rest of the family.

There is a story that a Jacobson ancestor, who was a Russian Rabbi, met Pope Clemente XII in 1736.  There is a medal that might be on display at the University of Judaism in New York City, but that has not yet been confirmed. That is all that is known at this time about the story

Gershon Raskin was a Jewish Scholar during the 19th century. More information will be provided when it becomes available.

Actor Paul  Reiser's 1st cousin, Janet  Reiser,  married Paul Wax who a cousin of my in the Leopold Jacobson branch of our Jacobson Family. While we do not have him listed, we do have his cousin listed.
